This broccoli fried rice is an easy dinner which is gluten free and also vegetarian. All you need is 30 minutes and you have a quick and easy dinner ready on the table.
I make this broccoli fried rice on days when I am not very well and need to make a quick dinner and save some for the tiffin for my kid, the next day. My daughter loves it and I usually serve it with a light soup. A great way to infuse broccoli in kids meals and it does a good job of hiding it.
Addition of mushrooms in the broccoli fried rice, gave this dish a new dimension in terms of taste. You can totally skip it but if you eat mushrooms, do add and see how mushrooms and broccoli are amazing together.
Broccoli is a super food and I make sure my family consumes broccoli twice a week or more than that in fact. My daughter doesn’t usually like florets and hence I end up looking for such recipes which help hide the vegetable. This recipe of broccoli fried rice sure does a good job of hiding broccoli.

Broccoli Fried Rice
Healthy fried rice recipe made with broccoli and mushrooms.
- 2 cups Steamed Rice
- 1 cup Broccoli steamed and finely chopped
- 1/2 cup Mushrooms washed and finely chopped (optional)
- 1/2 cup Onion finely chopped
- 1 tbsp Garlic finely chopped
- 1 tbsp Ginger finely chopped
- 2 tbsp Parsley or Coriander finely chopped
- 1 tsp Green Chilies finely chopped
- 2 tsp Soy Sauce
- 2 tsp Oyster or Teriyaki Sauce optional
- Salt to taste
- 1 tsp Black Pepper Powder
- 2 tbsp Oil
Steam broccoli florets for 3 to 5 minutes in salted boiling water and take it out.
Finely chop the broccoli florets or you can also pulse it in a food processor till it resembles rice.
Take oil in a kadhai or a heavy bottomed pan and keep all the ingredients close.
First saute onion until transparent.
Add garlic, ginger and parsley (or coriander) and saute until fragrant or a minute and a half.
Now add broccoli, mushrooms (if using) and mix well for couple of minutes or until mushrooms are cooked.
Now add soy sauce. Mix well.
Add some oyster or teriyaki sauce (if using). I use store bought sauces which don’t have any MSG in them.
Now add rice, salt and pepper. Mix well until thoroughly mixed.
Serve hot with an Asian gravy or as is. I served Broccoli Fried Rice with Mushroom soup.
