Summer and lemonade go hand in hand. It’s the quickest and easiest summer drink ever. An easy lemonade recipe only requires a handful of simple ingredients which are always in our pantry and in our fridge.

I always remember how we would come home from school on a hot day and mom would keep a jug of homemade nimbu pani or Indian Lemonade ready for us to cool down. There is nothing like a fresh squeezed lemonade to beat the summer heat.

How do you make homemade lemonade?

You can simply mix water, sugar and lemon juice for a simple lemonade but making a sugar syrup before hand makes it really easy to make lemonade or nimbu pani in seconds.

  • For a simple syrup, we need to combine sugar in a saucepan with water.
  • Bring the water to boil until it dissolves.
  • Allow the sugar syrup to come to room temperature, cover and refrigerate for use.
  • Squeeze lemon juice in a glass and discard the seeds. Add the chilled sugar syrup and water to taste.
  • Mix and adjust according to taste.

Simple syrup is used to sweeten drinks. It is mainly used for convenience and ease because the sugar crystals take a lot of time to dissolve if used directly in a cold drink. Simple syrup makes it easier to blend in a drink.

How do you make lemonade without sugar?

To make lemonade without sugar, you can substitute sugar with healthier alternatives like jaggery, stevia, dates etc. You can simply use jaggery water or teaspoon of stevia or dates syrup to sweeten the lemonade. Have a look at the jaggery lemonade I have made in this post.
