Best Methi Thepla Recipe with Paneer Bhurji | Kids Meal #4

Easy, Fragrant and soft Gujarati Methi Thepla recipe, served with Paneer Bhurji make for a perfect and simple meal for the kids. Alongside I served a peanut butter and dry fruit bee, a bowl of curd and vegetable salad.

This is the simplest of meals and we love theplas at home. I make Methi Theplas, Palak Theplas, Carrot and Beetroot Theplas and many more variety. Theplas are soft and full of nutrition. Theplas are also the perfect food for travel. If you are travelling with kids, make theplas and take. They stay good for as long as 5 days sometimes (depending on weather conditions and storage conditions too).

Paneer Bhurji adds the protein content in this meal. To make paneer bhurji is pretty simple. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan. Add 1/2 cup of chopped onion, 1 tsp of chopped garlic and 1/2 cup of chopped tomatoes. Fry till soft and cooked through. Add salt, pepper, very little garam masala powder, lemon juice and sprinkle some chopped fresh coriander. Mix well and serve warm.

For this meal, I cut the methi theplas in various shapes and served paneer bhurji in similar shapes. It was a matching puzzle for my daughter. The cute peanut butter and dry fruits bee, added the much needed charm and also health factor. A bowl of curd is a must every day for all of us. Salad with vegetables cut in cute pumpkin shapes made the meal all the more exciting.

With these creative meals, she has definitely learnt to like food and also generate interest in her about food. This is my fourth meal in the series of kids meals which are fun, creative, healthy and yummy. Take a look at the rest of the meals

  • 1 cup Fresh Methi (Fenugreek) leaves picked, washed and finely chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1/2 cup Curd
  • 2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp White sesame seeds
  • 6 Garlic cloves
  • 2 Green Chilies seeds removed

  1. Make a paste of garlic and green chilies. Use little water if needed.

  2. Mix together Flour, salt, turmeric powder, white sesame seeds.

  3. Now add rest of the ingredients, garlic and green chili paste, curd, oil and chopped methi leaves.

  4. Knead a tight dough with water and let it rest for 30  minutes.

  5. Now roll out thin roti which is not more than 6 inches in diameter.

  6. Place the rolled out roti on a hot tawa (griddle). Let it cook on high heat till you see small puffed pockets.

  7. Flip and let the other side cook completely. Apply oil on one side and flip again and apply oil. Flip only once now and immediately take the thepla out.

  8. Similarly finish cooking all theplas and cover them with a muslin cloth till you consume. This will keep them soft and supple.
