Have I found the perfect healthy snack for my family? Yes, these crunchy spiced chickpeas are hands down the best snack ever! We munch on them, put it on our pizza, put it in our pasta, put it in a gravy, put in chaat, put it in a salad! Am I obsessed? I clearly am! It’s always tricky to find snack idea which are healthy, nutritious and easy to make at the same time. This recipe right here is a winner in all fronts.

Roasted chickpeas are the best! I have roasted them on a skillet making it all the more easy. Lot of recipes canned chickpeas but here in India we get dry chickpeas. How to roast dry chickpeas? Dry chickpeas need to be soaked for at least 6 to 8 hours or overnight. Before making roasted chickpea, I also pressure cook soaked chickpeas for two-three quick whistles just to make them soft and easier to cook. Then it just takes 5 to 8 minutes on the skillet to get them to crisp up and your roasted chickpeas are ready to be used everywhere.

Chickpeas are also known as Garbanzo beans, chane or chole in India. A very popular street food called Chole Bhature is made with a spicy chickpeas curry and fried flat bread. Chickpeas is widely consumed in Mediterranean, Middle-Eastern and Indian food. These are Vegan and gluten-free.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Chickpeas boiled
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp Lemon juice
  • 2 tsp Cumin powder
  • 1 tsp Red chili powder
  • 1 tsp Garlic grated
  • 2 tbsp Oil or Clarified Butter Ghee)
  • 1 tsp Chaat Masala optional

Instructions

  1. Mix together chickpeas, salt, lemon juice, garlic, cumin powder, oil, chaat masala, red chili powder. Coat the chickpeas well.

  2. Heat a skillet and put the above chickpeas and roast them on low heat for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. Keep stirring in between. Serve warm.
