Sweet Potato Patties
These quick sweet potato patties make for an amazing appetizer or snack food for kids. To make it more nutritious, I have added ragi in this recipe. It’s a very easy and healthy recipe. Because of the goodness of sweet potatoes and ragi, these can be considered as one of the weight gaining foods.
Sweet potato also called as meethe aloo, shakarkand in hindi are very good for you and very healthy for kids. You can add them in any recipe which calls for potatoes. This sweet potato patties recipe is made with Indian spices and is one of our most loved sweet potato recipes. I have added ragi to this recipe as a binder and also to increase the nutrition quotient.
Ragi is naturally gluten free and is one of the best sources of non-dairy calcium. It’s rich in dietary fiber and is also a natural source of Vitamin D, iron and antioxidants. Ragi and sweet potatoes are considered one of the good weight gaining foods.

Why sweet potatoes are good?
Sweet potato has many health benefits and are very good for you. Sweet potatoes are a healthy source of calories and nutrition. Every 100 gm sweet potato has approximately 89 calories. It’s a good source of carbohydrates, fiber, Calcium, Vitamin A (beta carotene) and essential minerals. The easiest and most common way to eat sweet potato is to bake them or steam them. I love to eat them straight out of the oven with a squeeze of lemon and salt.
Are sweet potatoes, good or bad carbs?
Sweet potatoes are a source of good carb. Sweet potatoes cause a low blood sugar spike when consumed as compared to potatoes.
Are sweet potatoes healthier than potatoes?
Potatoes have a similar amount of carbs when compared to sweet potatoes. But sweet potato has a higher amount of fiber and low glycemic index.

Sweet Potato Patties With Ragi
Very easy recipe of sweet potato patties made with Ragi. Packed full of nutrition and good health.
- 1 cup Sweet Potatoes Mashed and Boiled
- 1/4 cup Ragi flour
- 1 tsp Cumin Powder
- 1 tsp Black Salt or Regular Salt
- 1 tsp Lemon juice
- Ghee (Clarified Butter) for shallow frying
Mix together sweet potatoes and ragi.
Add black salt, cumin powder and lemon juice. Taste and adjust seasoning if required.
Mix well and pat the mixture down to 1/4th inch thick circle.
Cut patties with a cookie cutter or with knife.
Shallow fry these patties in ghee or oil, until lightly roasted on both sides.
Serve them with a quick hung curd dip. Mix 1/2 cup hung curd with salt and lemon juice.
I have cut the patties in the shape of cupcakes and have decorated them with hung curd dip, coriander and slices of radish and tomatoes.
