Ingredients
For Moong Dal Chilla
  • 1/2 cup Moong Dal, split and husked soaked for 3-4 hours or overnight
  • 1/2 inch Ginger
  • 1 Green Chili
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 tsp Asafoetida (hing)
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tsp Cumin Powder
  • 2 tbsp Oil for Shallow Frying the Chillas
For Paneer (cottage cheese) stuffing
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 1/2 cup Onion finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup Capsicum finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup Tomatoes finely chopped
  • 1 tsp Garlic finely chopped
  • 1 cup Paneer (cottage cheese) crumbled
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Red Chili Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Chaat Masala
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Black Pepper Powder
  • 1 tbsp Coriander finely chopped
Instructions
For Moong Dal Chilla
  1. Put soaked and drained moong dal, ginger, green chili, salt, asafoetida, turmeric powder and cumin powder in a blender.

  2. Blend into a smooth paste. You can use some of the soaking water for dal to blend well.
  3. Heat a flat griddle or pan on the gas stove. Once the griddle is hot, smear very little oil.

  4. Take a ladle full of the dal batter and spread it with the back of the ladle in a circular motion spreading outwards, just like dosa and as shown in the video.
  5. Put some oil on the sides and let the chilla cook from one side.
  6. Flip once you start seeing crisp border and cook from the other side as well.
  7. Make other cheelas similarly and keep aside.
For the Paneer Stuffing
  1. Heat a pan, add oil and let it heat. Now add onion and capsicum. Fry till soft.

  2. Add tomatoes, garlic and fry for a couple of minutes.
  3. Now add crumbled paneer, salt, red chili powder, chaat masala, cumin powder, black pepper powder and chopped coriander and mix well. Cook for a minute and take it off the heat.

  4. For making potlis, take a cheela and put 2 tbsp of the paneer stuffing. Bring the sides together to form a potli or a pouch. Close the mouth with a spring onion green. Similarly make all potlis.
